In its latest issue, Le Film Fran\u00e7ais magazine has interviewed Laurens Ehrmann on the opening of the new studio in Montpellier.<\/span><\/h6>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=\u00a0\u00bbcustom\u00a0\u00bb border_width=\u00a0\u00bb2″ accent_color=\u00a0\u00bb#bdae8d\u00a0\u00bb][vc_column_text]Le Film Fran\u00e7ais, a French weekly magazine for audiovisual professionals, has recently published an article on the opening of The Yard’s new studio in Montpellier. At this occasion, Laurens Ehrmann, Founder and Senior VFX Supervisor at The Yard VFX, has been interviewed. He comes back on the reasons for the growing number of the studio’s collaboration on international productions and explains the strategy of the studio’s expansion out of Paris.<\/p>\n

The Yard, one of the few French studios working on international projects<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

The Yard VFX has been founded in 2014. Its first interntional collaboration took shape on Ford v Ferrari (Le Mans 66),<\/em> directed by James Mangold. <\/a>The studio then worked on the visual effects of Chloe Zhao’s three-time Oscar-winner Nomadland <\/em><\/a>or other projects such as the series Wanda Vision<\/a>. <\/em><\/p>\n

Among the most recent films, the studio has provided VFX for The Gray Man<\/a>, Father and Soldier (Tirailleurs)<\/a>, John Wick : Chapter 4 <\/a><\/em>and the very latest Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny<\/a>. <\/em><\/p>\n

The studio has also won the 2023 Cesar for Best Visual Effects on Notre Dame On Fire (Notre -Dame Br\u00fble) <\/em><\/a>by Jean-Jacques Annaud.<\/p>\n

With BUF Compagnie, The Yard is one of the few French studios which core business is international projects. Laurens Ehrmann explains the reasons why.<\/p>\n

All our Head of Department have worked for a long time abroad and have a lot of experience in working for international projects. We have set up pipelines and workflows that allow us to be efficient while keeping a high level of quality.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Expanding The Yard in other regions<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Headquarted in Vanves, just outside of Paris, The Yard is one of the three VFX studios with Mathematic and Unit Image who won the \u00ab\u00a0La Grande Fabrique de l’Image<\/a>\u00a0\u00bb call for project.\u00a0 On June 20, the company officially inaugurated its second studio in Montpellier, in partnership with ArtFX<\/a> and PICS Studio.<\/p>\n

It's a rather novel \"school-to-studio\" partnership that takes the form of master classes given to students by professionals working with us. It also enables us to reflect on future developments in training.<\/p>\n<\/div>

The new site will welcome during the summer a dozen of VFX artists and supervisors, with the ambition to multiply the workforce by four by the end of next year.<\/p>\n

Currently located at the Hotel des Entreprises du Mill\u00e9naire in Montpellier, the studio will be run by Damien Soyer<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After Montpellier, The Yard is already planning other openings such as in Rennes, probably next year.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator color=\u00a0\u00bbcustom\u00a0\u00bb border_width=\u00a0\u00bb2″ accent_color=\u00a0\u00bb#bdae8d\u00a0\u00bb]

Our strategy relies on a simple concept. Previously, talent needed to go to the companies but now, it's up to the studios to go to the talent. With the commoditization of remote working, artists enjoy working from home but are also eager to meet each other and work together. As soon as we detect a pocket of sufficient talent, we don't refrain from setting up a working space. <\/p>\n<\/div>
