‘Tirailleurs’ <\/em>(also known as ‘Father and Soldier’), <\/em>directed by Mathieu Vadepied and starring Omar Sy, is exclusively being released at Cin\u00e9 Lumi\u00e8re at the UK Institut Fran\u00e7ais as part of Black History Month.\u00a0<\/span><\/h6>\n

This month, the work of The Yard team is well-represented in the United Kingdom. After Ladj Ly’s ‘Les Indesirables<\/a>‘\u00a0<\/em>(also known as\u00a0‘B\u00e2timent 5<\/a>‘<\/em>) at BIF’s London Film Festival<\/a>, ‘Father and Soldier<\/a>‘<\/em> (also known as ‘Tirailleurs’<\/em> in France) is exclusively being released at the UK Institiut Fran\u00e7ais as part of Black History Month.<\/p>\n

The feature film, directed by Mathieu Vadepied and starring and produced by Omar Sy, sheds light on the Senegalese soldiers, who fought in the French army\u2019s colonial infantry during WWI and WWII. Set in 1917, the film tells the story of Bakary Diallo (Omar Sy) who enlists in the French army to be near his 17-year-old son, Thierno (Alasanne Diong), who is forced to serve. Sent to the front, father and son must brave the war together. Inspired by the determination of\u00a0 his Captain, who wants to lead him into the heart of the battle, Thierno must emancipate himself and become a man. Meanwhile, Bakary does eveything in his power to spare his son from combat and bring him home safe and sound.<\/p>\n

After its premiere at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival<\/a> (Un Certain Regard Selection),\u00a0 ‘Tirailleurs<\/a>‘<\/em> has been a box-office in France. It was the first French film to top one million admissions<\/a> in 2023.<\/p>\n
