Held in a fully booked auditorium at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.isart.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ISART Digital School<\/a> in Paris, the event gave attendees an in-depth look into the making of large-scale FX simulations for <a href=\"http:\/\/theyard-vfx.com\/stage\/title-item\/the-rings-of-power-season-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em data-start=\"1080\" data-end=\"1111\">The Rings of Power \u2013 Season 2<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_images_carousel images=\u00a0\u00bb9937,9935,9936&Prime; img_size=\u00a0\u00bbfull\u00a0\u00bb onclick=\u00a0\u00bblink_no\u00a0\u00bb][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Our Head of FX, Fabian Nowak, took the stage to present an in-depth look at The Yard\u2019s creative process, production methodologies, and behind-the-scenes research and development. The FX work on <a href=\"http:\/\/theyard-vfx.com\/stage\/title-item\/the-rings-of-power-season-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em data-start=\"328\" data-end=\"359\">The Rings of Power \u2013 Season 2<\/em><\/a>\u2014which earned The Yard the <a href=\"http:\/\/theyard-vfx.com\/stage\/2025\/01\/23\/the-yard-vfx-wins-big-at-the-2025-genie-awards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong data-start=\"384\" data-end=\"428\">2025 Genie Award for Best FX Simulations<\/strong><\/a>\u2014was the result of an 18-month production effort led by a team of 80 artists, including a dedicated group of 7 FX specialists.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=\u00a0\u00bb9940&Prime; img_size=\u00a0\u00bbfull\u00a0\u00bb alignment=\u00a0\u00bbcenter\u00a0\u00bb][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"3869\" data-end=\"4137\">Back on the production floor, Khazad-d\u00fbm became a key environment where a large range of effects converged. From the towering waterfalls and magical cymatics to dust-filled mining scenes and dynamic rockfalls, every detail was crafted to immerse viewers in the Dwarven world.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"4139\" data-end=\"4307\">Using RBD, fluid sims, and a wide range of FX disciplines, The Yard created sequences that feel grounded in physicality while enhancing the fantasy of Middle-earth.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4139\" data-end=\"4307\">The talk was structured around three major categories of FX work developed by The Yard for the series:<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #bdae8d;\"><strong>Art-Directed Destruction &#8211; RBD Simulations<\/strong><\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1941\" data-end=\"2040\">Fabian explored the process behind creating highly controlled destruction sequences. This included:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"2041\" data-end=\"2282\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2041\" data-end=\"2065\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2043\" data-end=\"2065\">Collapsing solar vents<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2066\" data-end=\"2135\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2068\" data-end=\"2135\">Pickaxe mining scenes with detailed dust, debris, and cloth effects<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2136\" data-end=\"2282\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2138\" data-end=\"2282\">The dramatic bridge collapse shot, blending <strong data-start=\"2182\" data-end=\"2225\">RBD simulations with keyframe animation<\/strong> to carefully manage the speed and impact of falling rock<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"2284\" data-end=\"2404\">These scenes demanded precision and creativity to convey physical realism while supporting the story\u2019s emotional stakes.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=\u00a0\u00bb9939&Prime;
