Meet The Yard at FMX 2026

FMX 2026 is on the horizon — and we’re excited to be part of the event’s 30 years, celebrating innovation, exchange, and inspiration. This year’s theme, “The Road Ahead,” invites us all to reflect, adapt, and help shape what comes next for animation, VFX, and digital media.

Since its beginnings at the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg in 1994, FMX has grown into Europe’s leading conference for animation, visual effects, and immersive media. Every spring, it brings together a unique mix of artists, technologists, studios, and students from across the globe—creating a space where ideas flow as freely as conversations.

This 30th edition is set to be especially meaningful. Under the theme « The Road Ahead, » this year’s program will also dive into the transformations reshaping film and media production. Expect a rich lineup of presentations, panels, and masterclasses exploring emerging technologies, shifting workflows, and new creative possibilities. The event will once again offer a dynamic platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and collaboration—whether through expert talks, one-on-one sessions, or informal exchanges throughout the exhibition space.

A highlight of this anniversary edition will be the presence of Roland Emmerich, returning to his hometown to celebrate 30 years of Independence Day. And on May 8, the event will offer a special on-campus day, honoring the journey of an industry that has constantly reinvented itself.

The Yard at FMX 2026

We’re excited to contribute to this year’s program with two engaging sessions that reflect the depth and creativity of our work, as well as our vision of our industry:

May 6 – 11:15am

The Predator from Yautja—Made in Europe

In this joint FMX exclusive presentation, VFX supervisors from The Yard VFX and TRIXTER reveal the European VFX expertise behind Predator: Badlands. Built on shared assets and constant creative exchange, the film’s VFX production thrived on collaboration. The supervisors will discuss how they actively referenced and inspired one another’s work across studios, using shared look development and even assets to ensure continuity while elevating environments, characters, creatures, and effects. The session also dives deep into their favorite sequences, highlighting the creative and technical challenges that defined them. More than a showcase of shots, this presentation demonstrates how cross-studio collaboration and shared inspiration across European VFX houses strengthened both craft and storytelling.

The FX of Predator : Badlands

Fabian Nowak, Head of FX at The Yard VFX, will explore the subtle FX that contributed to the storytelling of Predator : Badlands. Join him on a journey from Yautja Prime to Genna as he will dive into the diverse effects that shaped three key sequences in the film, revealing how simple effects can be complex and still make the difference.
