The Yard’s CTO, Alexis Oblet, attented Siggraph 2025 to explore the convergence of technologies, benchmark industry trends, and strengthen ties within the global VFX community.
Every year, SIGGRAPH brings together the world’s leading minds in computer graphics, VFX, and interactive technologies. For The Yard, it’s more than just an event—it’s a place to discover where technology is heading, compare expertise with industry peers, and foster the kind of connections that fuel future collaborations.
This year, The Yard was represented by its CTO, Alexis Oblet, who shared his thoughts with PostPerspective during the conference.
SIGGRAPH is a key event in the year for our industry. It’s where technologies converge, where you meet key people, and where you gain valuable insights you cannot find elsewhere.

Exploring Tech Trends – with AI in the Spotlight
While AI is making waves everywhere, SIGGRAPH provided a unique opportunity to compare The Yard’s own expertise with the AI innovations presented at the event, and to gain insights into the technology’s level of maturity and usage.
Beyond AI, Alexis pointed out that The Yard keeps a close eye on the wider stack of emerging technologies, always on the lookout for tools and methods that could have a direct impact on production workflows.
A Unique Sense of Community
What sets SIGGRAPH apart, according to Alexis, is the strong sense of community. Alongside FMX, it remains one of the few events where you can exchange ideas, share visions, and initiate collaborations with the leading actors of the industry.
Beyond the conferences, Alexis highlighted the rich networking opportunities offered at SIGGRAPH. From formal discussions to casual exchanges, the event created spaces for meaningful encounters. He especially noted the welcoming atmosphere at the VES Vancouver party, which facilitated new connections in a relaxed setting.

Recognition of The Yard’s USD Render Benchmark

A highlight of the week was seeing The Yard’s USD Render Benchmark project referenced during the annual Open Source Days conference at SIGGRAPH. This year’s Open Source Days event showcased massive industry momentum and participation, with over 500 in-person attendees and even more tuning in virtually from around the world. Read more about it here.
Originally released last year on GitHub, the project stemmed from a comprehensive technical audit in which The Yard evaluated leading render engines against key performance metrics such as speed, memory usage, and output fidelity. To make the process repeatable and reliable, the team developed a custom USD Render Benchmark suite built on carefully chosen open-source datasets that reflect real-world VFX workflows—and then shared it openly with the global community.
