Explore some of the VFX work that The Yard provided on the fifth and final season of ‘Stranger Things‘. From expansive environment builds to the layered complexity of the Upside Down, our teams helped shape the final chapter of Hawkins’ story.
Ready to go back to Hawkins ?
Season 5 of Stranger Things brought audience back to some of the most iconic locations of the series, often from new perspectives , new timelines, and even new dimensions.
From Henri Creel’s house to Hawkins High School, familiar places re-emerged with greater scale and emotional weight, while brand new places such as the WSQK radio station, MacZ, or the rocky outcrop and the canyon emerged to play a key role in the storytelling. Some required subtle set extensions and window inlays; others demanded full CG reconstruction to accommodate new angles, editorial shifts, or alternate realities.
And of course, no return to Hawkins would be complete without stepping once more into the Upside Down — a world whose visual language is instantly recognizable, yet deceptively complex to recreate. Red lightning tearing through blue-toned skies, dense fog, creeping vines, floating spores — every element had to align precisely to preserve the identity built over five seasons.
Across 15 months of production, our artists worked to expand these landmark locations while remaining faithful to the show’s established visual DNA.
