World Premiere of Le Jour J at the Angoulême Film Festival

This Wednesday, August 27th at 3:00pm , the Festival du Film Francophone d’Angoulême (FFA) will host the world premiere of Le Jour J, the new feature film by Claude Zidi Jr. Presented in a special 350-seat mega screening at Le Carat, the film promises to be one of the highlights of this year’s edition.

At The Yard, we are proud to have contributed our VFX expertise to this project, helping bring its bold vision to the screen.

A Story of Heroism… or Almost

Set in June 1944, on the eve of the Allied landings, Le Jour J follows Denis Porte (Kev Adams), a young man stationed on a British military base—though not quite the kind you’d expect. His mission is to move fake soldiers around a fake camp, designed to mislead the enemy.

In the Porte family, dying a hero for France is something of a tradition. But Denis’ mother would rather keep him far from danger, tolerating his role in the mock base and nothing more. Everything changes when Denis meets Sami (Brahim Bouhlel), an Algerian doctor eager to meet De Gaulle. After one too many drinks, the unlikely pair decide to take part in the grand fight themselves.

Except… they have the wrong date, the wrong place, and a protagonist who isn’t exactly eager to risk his life. A blend of humor, courage, and chaos ensues—the day of destiny… well, almost.

Angoulême: Celebrating Francophone Cinema

Now in its 18th year, the FFA has become a cornerstone of Francophone cinema. Each August, under the Angoulême sun, screenings spill from theaters into public squares, uniting cinephiles, newcomers, professionals, and curious festival-goers alike.

Founded by Marie-France Brière and Dominique Besnehard, the festival has always celebrated films that are both popular and refined, showcasing today’s creations, rediscovering the past, and spotlighting tomorrow’s talents. Over the years, it has been the launchpad for celebrated works such as Untouchable and Holy Cow.
