Tirailleurs – Exclusive Release at Ciné Lumière in London
‘Tirailleurs’ (also known as ‘Father and Soldier’), directed by Mathieu Vadepied and starring Omar Sy, is exclusively being released at Ciné Lumière at the UK Institut Français as part of Black History Month.
This month, the work of The Yard team is well-represented in the United Kingdom. After Ladj Ly’s ‘Les Indesirables‘ (also known as ‘Bâtiment 5‘) at BIF’s London Film Festival, ‘Father and Soldier‘ (also known as ‘Tirailleurs’ in France) is exclusively being released at the UK Institiut Français as part of Black History Month.
The feature film, directed by Mathieu Vadepied and starring and produced by Omar Sy, sheds light on the Senegalese soldiers, who fought in the French army’s colonial infantry during WWI and WWII. Set in 1917, the film tells the story of Bakary Diallo (Omar Sy) who enlists in the French army to be near his 17-year-old son, Thierno (Alasanne Diong), who is forced to serve. Sent to the front, father and son must brave the war together. Inspired by the determination of his Captain, who wants to lead him into the heart of the battle, Thierno must emancipate himself and become a man. Meanwhile, Bakary does eveything in his power to spare his son from combat and bring him home safe and sound.
Our team at The Yard is extremely proud to have worked on ‘Tirailleurs‘ and have contributed in bringing rarely-told yet still important stories to the public.
