The Australian Effects and Animation Festival has revealed the winners of its 2026 awards, with The Yard taking home two honors.

We are thrilled to announce that The Yard has been recognized with two prestigious honors at the 2026 Australian Effects and Animation Festival (AEAF) Awards!

The AEAF celebrates world-class visual effects and animation, highlighting projects that push creative boundaries and technical mastery. As the festival organizers noted this year:

« Every one of the winning projects is top quality and shows skill, real creativity and a spark of innovation that makes it stand out… The TV Series and Feature Film categories have been huge. Such projects can push teams to the limit, but the hard work has clearly paid off. »

We couldn’t agree more, and we are immensely proud of our team’s dedication across two standout projects.

🥉 Bronze Award: Predator: Badlands (Film Sequence)

Our team took home the Bronze Award in the Film Sequence category for delivering the visceral cave duel sequence between Dek and Kwei in Predator: Badlands.

Set deep within a massive crystal cavern, this intense fight sequence required full VFX integration from concept to final pixel. Our work encompassed:

  • Custom CG Environments: A modular, cavern layout inspired by real crystalline structures, designed to give camera teams total freedom during dynamic fight choreography.

  • Complex Lighting & Volumetrics: Multi-layered lighting filtering through translucent crystal structures, dense fog, and moody reflections.

  • Digital Double Integration: Ingesting and adapting assets from partners at Wētā FX and Trixter to ensure seamless digital double animation, look development, and realistic environmental contact.

⭐ Special Merit Award: Stranger Things 5 (TV Series)

In the hugely competitive TV Series category, The Yard was honored with a Special Merit Award for our extensive work on the final season of Netflix’s Stranger Things.

Delivering nearly 530 VFX shots across all eight episodes, our team helped bring Hawkins and the Upside Down to life with both massive set scale and invisible artistry:

  • Seamless Worldbuilding: Blending CG environments with practical sets across iconic locations like Hawkins, the Creels’ House, Mac-Z, and sprawling rocky canyons.

  • Evolving the Upside Down: Crafting procedural vines, drifting spores, atmospheric fog, dynamic lighting, and dual-reality transitions.

  • Invisible VFX: Utilizing precise roto, digital twins, and compositing to keep story continuity intact without distracting from emotional beats.

To top off an incredible event, our work was also named a finalist in the Feature Film VFX category. While we didn’t take home the top trophy there, standing among the world’s finest VFX houses in such a stacked category is a massive win in itself.

A huge congratulations to every single artist, supervisor, technician, and producer at The Yard who poured their passion into these projects. Your excellence continues to gain global recognition!
